John and Sarah Morton commissioned the state architect, William Dubois to draw up the plans for their Victorian home in 1902. The home was built by contractor James Wells and finished in July of 1903. John and Sarah raised 5 children in the home.
John Morton amassed a small fortune in the sheep industry. The Morton Ranch became the largest in Converse County and one of the largest in Wyoming. John died May 13, 1916. Sarah lived in the home until her death on December 22, 1952.
The home has also been used for apartments and a group home for children.
